Across Cultures and Crisis: A Memoir of China Before and During Covid-19 starts with a brief overview of China and its recent importance in the context of world events before moving onto an insight into my decision to relocate to China for several years. Based in the city of Wuxi in Jiangsu Province, I worked as a history teacher at an international high school. The majority of the book afterwards is about my daily life and my travels across China as I immerse myself in the country. The narrative is woven with colorful detail on my interactions with the people, customs, and places I encountered along the way. From the early days getting to grips with a completely new way of life, to my gradual “acclimatization”, then to my experience living through Covid-19, I came to understand China in a way that differs from most conventional Western perspectives.
