A Quantum Uncertainty continues the adventures of Lauren and Alex. Alex struggles to roundup all the members of Hebridean conspiracy and isolate its leaders. Lauren prepares to become Consort and co-ruler. But she is still plagued by nightmares since her healing and feelings of abandoning her friends in her universe continue. Their soulmate bond continues to grow as do the parallels to the Doouglas and Fraser’s relationship. Alex knows that a true partner-relationship requires each to contribute, sacrifice, grow, listen, and try to understand the other. She is willing to allow Lauren to do and go wherever she needs to heal, as long as she is by Lauren’s side. --------------- When I started this series, I was enthralled with the story and the way it mixed fantasy and science fiction. I eagerly awaited this second installment, and while it does address a lot of the loose ends from the prior book, it just didn't captivate me like the first part did. This second book starts off in the alternate reality and presents Lauren's day to day life as she prepares to become Alex's consort. For me, it got bogged down in the metaphysical descriptions about life in the alternate reality. Even the conspiracy against the main characters was too easily and neatly resolved to hold my interest. When the book switches back to the reality that Lauren left behind, it also switches to another character's (Jamie's) point of view. That made the narrative feel disjointed to me. I understand why Lauren and Alex had to return to Lauren's original place and time, but I think the story would have been more captivating had it also continued to be told from her point of view. An understanding of the factors that led to Lauren's and Alex's decision to return, and a description of their preparations, could have been a good source of conflict for the story. At least, it would have smoothed out the plot line. To have the story's narration switch to Jamie, and then have Lauren, Alex, and the crew just appear in the original reality was a bit abrupt for me. I like the Lauren character, but it is Alex who interests me more. In the first book, they were both main characters and the growth of their relationship kept me interested. In this book, Alex was almost relegated to the position of a secondary character, and that was disappointing for me. The last segment in this book was a setup for the third book. It was so different from the rest of the story that it was not a comfortable transition. The fact that it was narrated from yet another perspective did not help. However, it did capture my curiosity and insure that I would await the completion of this trilogy. Overall, I found this second installment of the story to be a bit disjointed but the tale of Lauren and Alex is captivating. I am eagerly awaiting the final part.
