When Professor Alpert's study of the Spanish Civil War was first published it set the standard for approaches to the international aspects of the conflict, covering the whole era and setting the action in Spain against major events throughout the world of the 1930s. Now reissued, the book has been updated to take into account recent scholarship in the field as well as newly available archival material.
