Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com) "Kozo Uno influenced a whole generation of Marxian political economists in post-1945 Japan. Thomas Sekine worked closely with Uno in Japan and later came to York University in Toronto, where he introduced Uno's ideas to Canadian scholars. Sekine has significantly enlarged and refined Uno's work, and in the process has influenced scholars in both Japan and Canada. This anthology is a collection of essays in Marxian political economy by scholars who have been influenced by Sekine's particular appropriation of Uno's ideas. Sekine extends Uno's conception of three autonomous levels of analysis by making explicit the dialectical logic that lay buried in Uno's theory of a purely capitalist society. This enables him to theorize more rigorously the basic operating principles of capital and to shed light on how abstract economic theory can be related to more concrete levels of analysis without falling into the traps of economism."--BOOK JACKET Front Matter....Pages i-vii Introduction....Pages 1-10 Front Matter....Pages 11-11 Uno School Seminar on the Theory of Value....Pages 13-33 The Necessity of the Law of Value, Its Demonstration and Significance....Pages 34-43 The Demonstration of the Law of Value and the Uno—Sekine Approach....Pages 44-64 Unoist Approach to the Theory of Economic Crises....Pages 65-91 The Social Contexts of Money Uses....Pages 92-104 Front Matter....Pages 105-105 Dialectics and Economic Theory....Pages 107-139 Postmodern Sediments and the Logic of Capital....Pages 140-161 Theorizing the Realm of Consumption in Marxian Political Economy....Pages 162-180 A Very Nearly Capitalist Society....Pages 181-200 Regulation Theory: A Critique....Pages 201-226 Back Matter....Pages 227-239 In the following ten sets of questions and answers, I intend to give a concise account of the theory of value as it is conceived in the dialectic of capital, i.e., the Marxian economic theory which the late Professor Kozo Uno (1897-1977) developed as a dialectical system.
