This book is written in connection with the Tattoo to continue and expand this tradition. The idea of the book is to put a human face on Canada's distinguished record in war and peacekeeping. If there is a dominant theme, it is the ability of Canadians in times of conflict to show great initiative and courage within the framework of sound military discipline - a fact that has been praised by others than by Canadians. The author has also recognized that maintaining the discipline and initiative that has served the Canadian Forces so well in the past is the most significant challenge facing it in the third millennium.
