This publication is the second supplement to the 1992 catalog and updates information from 1995 to the end of 1999. A bibliography including over 1300 references is included. A complete index to all species names, both valid and invalid, of the world fauna Scolytidae and Platypodidae is included. Approximately 7000 species of Scolytidae and 1500 species of Platypodidae occur throughout the world. For workers in forestry and agriculture, the sheer volume of names and literature references represents a formidable obstacle to research. The present publication, used in combination with the 1992 catalog and the 1997 supplement, provides research workers with the most up-to-date information on the bionomics of the Scolytidae and Platypodidae available. Each genus & species is listed with its page number from the 1992 Catalog or 1997 Supplement. Additional information on figures, distribution, hosts, and references relating to one or more of eight subject areas, as used in the 1992 Catalog, are given.
